As many of you know, I have spent my entire career helping businesses eliminate inventory and cash losses, either through improved processes or by identifying employee theft when it occurs. I have been through economic downturns, inflation, and recessions during my life. In our present economic condition, I see employee theft increasing during these tough times and it is important that you have a plan in place if employee theft should occur in your stores.
I see a potential problem with some of the programs that have recently been adopted by NAPA. The new CILOW Allowance Account program is going to open a huge opportunity for our employees to steal money from our businesses. The problem with any allowance program is that we are going to lose our ability to match a cash credit to an RGN or manufacturer's credit, because the store has been instructed to throw out the defective product. This will not give the company time to identify the potential loss and then tie it to a credit, to determine whether the transaction actually occurred. We rely on our RPT130 process to catch these mistakes, but that does not always happen. A long time ago, I created the Invoice Review program to combat this problem, but I am not sure that many NAPA companies have implemented this program, so your company is exposed.
I have been successfully conducting employee theft investigations and employee theft interviews for 56 years. I am a licensed Private Investigator in good standing for over 39 years.
Employee theft has aways been a problem for NAPA business owners and it is important for every owner to ensure that a potential theft situation within their company is always handled both professionally and ethically, to avoid wrongful firing cases and to ensure that the process is fair to the employee that is being questioned. Over the past 41 years, I have successfully conducted these investigations and interviews in hundreds of NAPA stores and have recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars for the owners.
I am offering several different services if potential employee theft occurs in your operation.
You can call or email me with your concerns, if you think you have an employee theft situation, and I will help you understand your options. There is no charge for the initial call or email.
I will help you define whether you have a potential theft situation at your store, and I will show you additional things that you can do to further ensure that you have a theft issue. If you want to handle the theft situation yourself, I will walk you through the correct process to ensure that you do not cross over certain boundaries that may put you in an unpleasant situation. I will provide you with some of the documents you will need to be successful such as confession forms and release forms. I will assist you in the process for a fee of $100 per hour.
If you do not want to handle the investigation and interview yourself and would rather that I handle it for you, I will charge you my normal daily fee of $1,000 per day plus expenses (normally one day) and I will come to your location and handle the entire process for you. If the interview results in a signed confession of guilt by the employee and money is recovered, either from the individual or from an insurance company, (if you have Employee Dishonesty Insurance), I will receive 20% of all money recovered. I will normally be more successful and get back far more money for you than a local sheriffs dept or having you do it yourself, because of my understanding of your TAMS systems and the ways that employees take advantage of your TAMS system and store processes.
