Meet Richie Dohoney

History

With more than 42 years of experience working closely with NAPA stores, Richie possesses an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges that confront NAPA Independent Owners. Having served around 300 NAPA Independent Owners, he has a proven track record of success in enhancing profitability by eliminating inventory losses and implementing strategies to drive sales growth.

Richie's unwavering dedication to delivering results and driving success is a testament to his passion for helping NAPA Independent Owners achieve their business objectives.

  • When Richie first started working with the Genuine Parts Company-owned stores, they were experiencing a staggering $25,000,000 inventory loss. Over the course of three years, he traveled to all 52 Districts to train an Asset Protection Manager, a Paperwork Reduction Clerk, and all the store managers.
  • He created an audit process to ensure that the stores followed the program, resulting in zero inventory loss by the end of the third year. The inventory loss results remained at zero for four years, a first in GPC history.
  • Richie's focus then shifted exclusively to NAPA Independent Owners, beginning with Joe Hansberry's MPEC Group. He has since worked with 300 Independent NAPA Owners.
  • Throughout his career, Richie has achieved remarkable success in eliminating inventory write-off results for NAPA Independent Owners in both the U.S. and Canada.
  • Before his work in the U.S., Richie created the Asset Protection Program for UAP or NAPA Canada, achieving similar results as in the U.S. and earning Triple Crown Status with Larry Samuelson as President.
  • Richie is responsible for writing almost all of the in-store processes that NAPA uses today, a testament to his extensive knowledge and impact on the industry.

I first heard Richie Dohoney at a marketing conference a few years ago. Like every other jobber I know, it was my feeling that we were doing most things right, we didn’t really need his services and besides… he’s really expensive!

After many phone calls, I finally gave in and agreed to four days with Richie… one for each one of my stores. I put my number two person with him and at the end of the first day I got a call from my guy who asked me “What was I spending for Richie?” I replied, “a thousand dollars a day plus expenses.” At which time my guy said, “Best money we’ve ever spent!”

In very little time, Richie was able to identify several areas where we were leaking cash. In the end, we figured he was going to help save us approximately $500 a month per store, or $24,000 total per year.

If I can say one thing, it would be that until you go through the process you don't know what you're missing.  I mean, we all think we know the process is being done properly, but I think a majority of stores don't have the audit process in place.  I know we didn't, and after just going through one store's Battery Defect sheet it was becoming painfully obvious that we needed to listen and make some serious changes.


Not only will these processes save you from losing thousands upon thousands of dollars but it's going to make the store run so much smoother.
